Have some fun today
You are now among friends.
I have learned much since beginning this website. Most of us with illnesses or disabilities that are not generally known or understood have all felt dismissed or at the very least, misunderstood by friends, co workers, and family.
Some became ill or disabled later in life and have to learn a new set of living skills. Some of us were born with our afflictions and have had to learn to live in a world that was not designed for us.
The most important thing that I have learned is that we all have far more in common than any of us might have thought. It is that commonality that brings us together. It is that commonality that allows us to help each other learn new ways to move forward and live our lives to the fullest possible.
Most of us have heard phrases like “But you look good” or “You sound so well”, Not only is this frustrating, it often leads to isolation as we try to avoid unwarranted feelings of guilt or anger. Some of us who have come late to our condition may even understand where these remarks come from.
More often than not, it is well meant but no less painful. We would so gladly be as well as we look or sound to others.
It is my hope that in the articles, interviews and stories you will find here will help you not only to cope but to help others understand how hard you try.
I believe the articles “Invisible Disability” and “Disability 101” offer some excellent suggestions for how to deal with friends and family.
There also are stories regarding specific conditions that help those of us with something entirely different understand each other and how much we share. I hope all who enter here will take away hope and help.
Thanks for stopping by. Please come back often to see what is new.
